Compact Plasmonic Distributed-Feedback Lasers as Dark Sources of Surface Plasmon Polaritons

چکیده

Plasmonic modes in optical cavities can be amplified through stimulated emission. Using this effect, plasmonic lasers potentially provide chip-integrated sources of coherent surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs). However, while have been experimentally demonstrated, they not generated propagating plasmons as their primary output signal. Instead, typically involve significant emission free-space photons that are intentionally outcoupled from the cavity by Bragg diffraction or leak reflector edges due to uncontrolled scattering. Here, we report a simple design allows for straightforward extraction lasing mode SPPs minimizing photon leakage. We achieve 10-μm-long distributed-feedback consisting Ag periodically patterned with ridges coated thin layer colloidal semiconductor nanoplatelets gain material. The designed second-order feedback direct experimental examination lasing-mode profile real- and momentum-space, good agreement coupled-wave theory. In contrast, demonstrate first-order-feedback remain dark above threshold signal leaves SPPs, highlighting potential such on-chip plasmons.

Tunability of hybridized plasmonic waveguide mediated by surface plasmon polaritons.

Hybrid plasmonic waveguides have achieved rapid advancement in plasmonics, which has given rise to remarkable field enhancement, light harvest, light-transport capabilities, bridging the gap between electronics and photonics by routing and manipulating light at sub-wavelength regions and so on. However, the development of plasmonic waveguides is hindered by lack of devices that can adjust coher...

Odd-Mode Surface Plasmon Polaritons Supported by Complementary Plasmonic Metamaterial

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), either on metal-dielectric interfaces in optical frequencies or on structured metal surfaces in the lower frequencies, are dominantly even modes. Here we discover dominant odd-mode SPPs on a complementary plasmonic metamaterial, which is constructed by complementary symmetric grooves. We show that the fundamental SPP mode on such a plasmonic metamaterial is a ...

Compact gradual bends for channel plasmon polaritons.

We report the design, fabrication and characterization of compact gradual bends for channel plasmon polaritons (CPPs) being excited at telecom wavelengths. We obtain high-quality near-field optical images of CPP modes propagating along a bent V-groove in gold, which indicate good CPP mode confinement in the groove and efficient guiding around the compact S-bend connecting two 5-mum-offset groov...

Resonant tunneling of surface plasmon-polaritons.

The tunneling of surface plasmon-polaritons (SPPs) across an interruption in the metallic film supporting them is numerically investigated in details. Both non-symmetrical and symmetrical geometries are considered. A very high tunneling efficiency is calculated for the long-range surface plasmon in the symmetrical geometry, with an amplitude transmission as high as 80% over a 5 microm gap for a...

Direct imaging of localized surface plasmon polaritons.

In this Letter, we report on dark field imaging of localized surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in plasmonic waveguiding bands formed by plasmonic coupled cavities. We image the light scattered from SPPs in the plasmonic cavities excited by a tunable light source. Tuning the excitation wavelength, we measure the localization and dispersion of the plasmonic cavity mode. Dark field imaging has bee...
